Pro of the Month: The Hope Plumbing Story of Partnership, Grit, and Community

For 18 years, Hope Plumbing has been a cornerstone of the Indianapolis home service community.

From a single truck to a team of 250, their story is a masterclass in building a business the right way: grit, partnership, and an unwavering commitment to local roots.

They were a founding member of Neighbor Serve, believing in our vision before we even had a website. That spirit of community leadership is why we’re proud to name them our Pro of the Month.

A Partnership Forged in Indy and Fire: A “Bigger Than Yourself” Mentality

The Hope Plumbing story begins with a friendship between two high schoolers from Bishop Chatard, Brad Persic and Jack Hope.

They worked together at another plumbing company, where they discovered they had a “match made in heaven” dynamic. Brad was the licensed plumber, an expert in the field. Jack was the expert in the office. They had different skills but shared the same core values. The perfect foundation for a business.

With that foundation, Brad and Jack launched Hope Plumbing in 2007, right as the economy was faltering. The early days were a struggle.

“I look back, and I can’t believe we didn’t give up,” Brad admits. With his wife pregnant at the time, the pressure was immense. “I felt like there was something bigger than just Jack and me.”

That sense of responsibility to their families, and now to 250 local families their company employs, clearly paid off. To better serve their growing customer base, they expanded into HVAC by bringing Service Plus, another local company, into the Hope Plumbing family.

The “Win Together” Philosophy of Community

Hope Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling has become a leader not just in service, but in collaboration. Their team has a willingness to share their expertise with fellow local businesses. When Leah from Bulldogs Moving wanted to learn more about marketing, Hope’s marketing team, Colleen and Hayden, dove in to help. It’s this spirit of lifting others up that defines a true community leader.

Which is why Brad doesn’t see other large service companies as “competitors.” He believes there’s more than enough work for everyone to thrive and that a good customer experience with any local company elevates the entire industry.

“We can all do this thing and win together,” Brad says.

This “we all win together” mentality is why their community involvement feels so genuine. It’s why they sponsor the Little League where Jack played as a kid (Broad Ripple Haverford Little League). It’s why they champion their friends’ businesses, like Garden Table or Binkley’s. Brad shares the story of Courtney Whistler, who started as a hostess at Binkley’s and worked her way up to buying the restaurant, calling it “an incredible story.”

Tips for Homeowners

When looking for a contractor, Brad believes the most important work is done before the visit, by checking reviews and asking for referrals from friends and platforms like Neighbor Serve. Once the pro is in your home, he advises you to ask yourself:

“Do I trust this person? Do they seem genuine? Are they a local company or know the owners? We know they care because of their reputation and live here.”

While the work must be done correctly, the decision often comes down to customer service and character.

“Are they the kind of people who would stand up and make it right if something went wrong?”
