Homeownership comes with a never-ending to-do list and a lot of worries. At NeighborServe, we get it. We’re here to take the guesswork out of home care, but our mission doesn’t stop there. We’re passionate about supporting local, Indy-owned businesses and helping entrepreneurs thrive.
This is the story of Brian Woodward of Woodward Home Services, a story that gives us so much energy and confidence that we are building something meaningful for our neighbors and our local contractors.
Two years ago, we met Brian at a bustling home show at Grand Park. He approached our booth with a story familiar to many small business owners. He was running a handyman business to pay the bills, but his goal was to focus on dryer vent cleaning. It was a service he ‘loves delivering’ because, in his words, it’s where he can ‘best help clients.’. He had even purchased a retiring competitor’s business, which amounted to a vacuum and a box full of receipts.
Brian knew how critical his preferred service was. A clean dryer vent not only helps your dryer run more efficiently, saving you money on energy bills and extending the life of the appliance, but it’s also a critical safety measure. Thousands of house fires are caused by clothes dryers each year, with the leading cause being a failure to clean them. Brian wanted to provide a service that offered real peace of mind, but he was struggling to make it his primary focus.
Fast forward two years. Brian recently called us with an update that made our day. For over a year, he had been slowly chipping away at organizing that old box of receipts into a usable customer list. Then, he started experimenting with AI tools. After just a few hours a day for about a week, he made a year’s worth of progress.
This experience opened his eyes to the power of technology in a service business. In his own words:
“My personal use of ChatGPT opened my eyes up to the possibilities. Knowing that NeighborServe is building AI into our platform means I can be a lot more efficient and savvy, along with the other contractors in the NeighborServe co-op.”
Thanks to the steady stream of work from the NeighborServe network, Brian has been able to dedicate his schedule almost entirely to dryer vent cleaning this season. This power of community was on full display just this morning. A call came in at 7:00 AM from one of our Home Concierge clients. She had a cleaning scheduled for Saturday and wanted to know if a few of her neighbors could get on the schedule as well. By 8:15 AM, he had already scheduled appointments for two of her neighbors for a later date.
Brian’s story is a testament to what can happen when you connect a skilled, trustworthy professional with homeowners who need their expertise. His goal was to build a business that allowed him to do what he loves and do it well. By focusing on his specialty, he can run an efficient business with great margins and provide fair pricing to his customers.
At NeighborServe, we believe in empowering entrepreneurs like Brian. Whether it’s a one-person operation or a company with dozens of employees, we want to help local, “Hoosiers-Only” businesses build the business they’ve always dreamed of. We help fill the schedule so they can focus on what they do best—providing exceptional service to our shared community.
Brian Woodward’s success is our success. It’s a reminder that when we connect good people, great things happen. And it’s what motivates us to keep making home management simpler, safer, and more worry-free for everyone.
