Product Engineer (AI and Web)

About Neighbor Serve

From plumbers to pools, handymen to remodels, we make it easy to get home projects done with pre-vetted contractors, VIP pricing, and priority service.

We are an efficient, AI-enabled services company serving neighbors, contractors, and our team. We are winning in Indy and will repeat our playbook to expand to new markets. We are scaling trust, the critical ingredient missing from the national ad-driven models that proliferate in home services.

  • 85% of revenue is referred.
  • We have spent 2 years learning and building proprietary data on homes and vetting over 2,000 contractors.
  • Our AI platform is making it incredibly efficient to match the ideal contractor for each neighbor. We can chat with our homes to know what it needs, who can help, and how much it should cost.

When business owners live in the communities they serve, they treat customers like neighbors. They care more and deliver better service. You won’t see every contractor…just the top 5% of trusted pros. Neighbor Serve helps you save time, worry less, and care for your home.

Role Overview: Product Engineer

You will be the product engineer responsible for the app.neighborserve.com platform. You will manage the entire software lifecycle—from high-level product strategy and infrastructure on Vercel and Neon to building autonomous, agentic AI systems that redefine the home services experience.

This role gives you the opportunity to influence the trajectory of our business through product strategy, enhance the customer experience through best in class user experience, and lead the decisions made in the selection of architecture, software platforms, and partners

A Day in the Life:

  • Full-Stack Development & Product Ownership: You will take full ownership of the source code repository on GitHub, writing clean, scalable code that prioritizes the user experience. You don’t just ship features; you ship business outcomes.
  • Architect & Strategist: Lead the strategy for our software architecture. You will collaborate with leadership to navigate technical tradeoffs, ensuring our “Compound AI” systems (combining multiple LLMs and RAG) are built for both speed and long-term stability.
  • Infrastructure & Security Stewardship: You will manage our hosting environment on Vercel and serverless database on Neon. You are responsible for ensuring our data is secure, our deployments are seamless, and our platform is stable.
  • Agentic AI & API Integration: You will act as the architect for our intelligent integrations. This includes designing agentic workflows that can reason through neighbor needs, maintaining property data via RentCast, and ensuring resilient communication via Resend.
  • Geospatial Experience: You will manage the Google Maps Platform integration to power intuitive, location-based features for neighbors and contractors.
  • Technical Liaison: Lead the selection of internal software tools and coordinate with external partners or contractors as needed to accelerate the roadmap.

Success

Success in this role is a balance of maintaining a stable foundation while shipping innovative features that drive adoption. This includes:

  • Uptime & Integrity: Ensuring 99.9% uptime on Vercel and smooth database operations on Neon.
  • AI Orchestration: Optimizing performance and costs through sophisticated LLM orchestration and compound engineering.
  • Scalable Playbook: Building a technical foundation that allows us to scale our “local, relationship-driven playbook” to new markets efficiently.
  • Product-Led Growth: Developing frictionless systems and features that drive deep customer engagement and satisfaction.

Traits for Success

  • High Integrity: You handle sensitive neighbor data and critical infrastructure with extreme care.
  • Technical Fluency: Deep experience with modern frameworks (React/Next.js), serverless architecture (Neon/Postgres), and complex API orchestration.
  • Entrepreneurial Partner: You are a self-starter who thinks like an owner. You are willing to “roll up your sleeves” to debug a critical issue or “vibe code” a new prototype.
  • Organized Architect: You create order out of complexity, managing multiple integrations (RentCast, Resend, Google Maps) with a focus on system reliability.

Required Technical Skills

  • Modern Development Environment: Expert proficiency with AI-assisted IDEs like Cursor or Windsurf. You are “all-in” on using LLMs to generate, refactor, and audit code at 10x speed.
  • Frontend/Hosting: Expert-level deployment and management on Vercel.
  • Database: High proficiency with SQL and relational modeling on Neon.
  • AI/ML: Experience implementing Agentic workflows and Compound AI systems using various LLMs (OpenAI, Claude, etc.).
  • APIs: Experience integrating and securing third-party services like RentCast, Resend, and Google Maps.
  • Version Control: Expert-level management of GitHub and modern CI/CD workflows.

Weekly Activities for Success (80% of your time)

  • Core Development: Writing and shipping code that removes user friction and adds business value.
  • Infrastructure Monitoring: Proactively reviewing Vercel logs and Neon performance to ensure 99.9% uptime.
  • Integration Health: Monitoring the heartbeat of our AI, property data, and map integrations.
  • Agentic R&D: Prototyping new autonomous AI capabilities to better match neighbors with contractors.
  • Data & Incident Management: Addressing user-reported issues and verifying database integrity/backups.

Possible Projects / Responsibilities (20% of your time)

  • Architecture Optimization: Refactoring for performance, security, and lower API/token costs.
  • Security & Compliance: Conducting audits of API keys, access logs, and PII protections.
  • Growth Tooling: Building internal dashboards and partner tools (e.g., Realtor Invite Tool) to drive platform adoption.
